For those who have never experienced a stroke or any major health condition, it can be challenging to truly understand what a stroke survivor faces daily. My symptoms have fluctuated over the years, ranging from happiness to depression, with feelings of loneliness becoming especially pronounced as the weather gets colder.
Trying to explain what I feel is often exhausting and sometimes feels useless. If you think I’m exaggerating it, that’s your opinion. I have been told throughout the years of my stroke wellness journey by some who are unfamiliar with aphasia that I don’t have it, along with other invisible challenges I face. I've had to reinvent myself and give up on many of the things that I enjoyed doing before the stroke. For instance, I haven't driven a car since I had the stroke. I manage my conditions well because I work on myself every day with guidance from The Most High, close family, and friends.
I wish others could find it in their hearts to show a little compassion. Being left out of family gatherings and only being thought of during the holidays is hurtful. Compassion and Love can heal!
During this season, please consider reaching out to the sick and shut-in year-round, not just during the holidays. We need love too! That is why I created the Trazana A. Staples Foundation—to help offer support to others.
Please consider donating on Giving Tuesday. Your donation helps to bring the Intergenerational Wellness Partners Workshop Series to your community in the Cincinnati, Hamilton County area.
Thank you for your time and generosity! Remember, no donation is too small.
